The Trump regime has caused significant, often irreparable, environmental harm, with the rollback of over 100 federal environmental regulations that curbed greenhouse gas emissions and protected air and water quality. His policies have weakened protections for public lands and wildlife and increased fossil fuel / mineral extraction in a manner that is rife with corruption and personal vendettas.
Those sweeping actions hurt planetary life, violate laws and scientific standards and reverse policies developed over the past 55 years, since the first Earth Day. Instead of scientists, he hires untalented people with conflicts of interest who are often drawn from right-wing media and corporate industries — with the full backing of the Republican Congress. It’s time to end that stranglehold. Here’s why:
- Air Pollution is up: Pushes fossil fuel burning, the major driver of global warming and extreme weather events, more toxic chemical releases into the air, raised levels of radiation allowed.
- Attacking Environmental Regulation, Protections, and Rules: On his first day in office, Trump signed 26 executive orders, some of which reversed U.S. environmental policy.
- Clean Energy and Environment Projects Ended: He even spent $1 billion of our tax dollars to shut down wind power farms that were built, ready to go and paid for by our taxes. He cut subsidies for clean energy and gave subsidies to fossil fuels, deforestation and coal mining.
- Data Tracking and Scientific Standards: Mass firings of scientists, defunded academia, cancelled medical, environmental research, etc.
- Disaster Management: Fails to issue warnings or prepare for disasters, denies assistance to “Blue States,” such as California.
- Employee Firings and Personnel Cuts: Competent and trained professionals have been fired and replaced with political hacks, doing intentional harm to the Earth.
- Endangered species under attack: Took protections from helpless life forms facing extinction. Removed safeguards on natural habitats.
- Energy and Water Efficiency: Encourages gas-guzzling cars, dirty energy, nuclear power, wasteful appliances.
- Food purity and safety weakened: Removed safeguards against adulterants, raised limits for toxic chemicals in the food chain. Promotes water-intensive diet.
- Funding Cuts for Local Projects: Took funding from contracts made by Biden administration.
- National Lands, Forests, Monuments Exploited: More logging, mining and oil drilling offshore and in many of our most sacred, scenic and fragile natural environments.
- New Fossil Fuel Investments: Uses our tax money to socialize and reopen coal / oil facilities that lose money.
- Pesticides: Expanded types, increased usage, reduced monitoring and cut enforcement.
- Transportation: Cut and withheld money for public transit and clean vehicle programs. Removed support for electric vehicles, lowered gas mileage standards.
- Water Pollution: Allows more chemical releases into the water, reduced monitoring, reauthorized pipeline projects, and the “Deep Water” project that earlier spewed millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.
- And that’s just the beginning.
If you care about the environment, so do we. Join Indivisible West Contra Costa County (IWCCC) to stand up to Trump for workers, students, the environment, the economy and against his wars, immigration violence, Trump-Epstein cover-up, etc. Each of us has our own reasons to resist and fight back.
We hold weekly protests, monthly action meetings, and working in our local community to have a positive effect on this year’s elections. We need help from people like you, who are willing to volunteer a little time for the good of all.
