Hi Everyone,
After taking a few vacation days to decompress, I eased back into “real life” by enjoying the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center.
Listening to Barack and Michelle Obama speak was a beautiful reminder that our political representatives can be intelligent, articulate, humorous, hopeful, dignified, and kind. Their warmth and grace were a much-needed antidote to the relentless, toxic onslaught of MAGA hatred and corruption.
Watching the opening didn’t make me angry over how far our country has fallen since Obama was in office. It made me hopeful about how far we can rise, together. By lifting up others, we can still lift up ourselves and our country.
To quote Michelle Obama’s speech,
“We simply don’t have the luxury or time to be cynical or complacent, to wring our hands in despair, to wait for someone else to fix the problem.
Y’all, hope is all we have.
Because hope is the essential spark that lights the fire of change. But hope is a choice. Whether or not we use our voices to speak up is a choice. Voting is a choice. Being a decent human being is a choice. Believing that we still hold the power to build a country that reflects us all is a choice.”
I highly recommend watching the Obamas’ speeches for inspiration, and then choosing to do everything you can to rebuild our democracy—starting today.
